HOME | Tuvans in XinJiang

25th Nov, 2023

Tuvans and their original song called “Home”

The Tuvans, a Mongolian ethnic group that speaks the Tuvan language, are a community that resides in Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, and China. For thousands of years, these nomadic livestock herders have tended to goats, sheep, camels, reindeer, cattle, and yaks. Throat singing is part of their unique cultural practices, throat singing was originally used to mimic the sounds of nature.

“A primitive tribe wandering in the depths of Xinjiang” is what they called Tuvans in Kanas, Xinjiang. Even though the Tuvan people have only maintained an oral form of their language and without a writing system, their history and information about their ancestors were only passed down orally from generation to generation. Which emphasises the mysteriousness of this community.
